Fall Prevention Therapy is designed to reduce the risk of falling with physical activity. Falls can diminish a patients ability to lead an active life. For that reason, our therapists design individualized fall prevention programs.

Such programs focus in various areas, including the patients environment as well as his physical condition.

Fall Prevention Therapy is an  effective way to improve functional dynamic and static balance and mobility.

Designing a Fall Prevention Therapy Program

Evaluation begins with an analysis of the patients general physical condition. This evaluation will determine areas where the patient’s body requires strengthening.

A history of previous falls is usually helpful in determining if the patient’s living or working environment needs to be looked at. If modification of habits or living conditions are needed, our physical therapist may decide that a dose of occupational therapy may also be required.

Poor vision may be the cause in older patients, if this is the case, recommendations will be made for an appointment with eye specialists. Leg muscle weakness, effects from other diseases such as Parkinson’s and Balance problems will be considered. When patient take several different medicines, drug interaction may occur which also should be considered. All these factors are part of the considerations required to create an effective program. The program will be carried out at our facility according to an established schedule and the duration depends on factors such as age, physical condition, and severity of the fall.

On patients over 65 years of age, long term exercise routines may be required.

  • Design a physical conditioning program that helps improve balance and strength.
  • Maintain control of the patients progress.
  • Establish if there are external conditions affecting the patients balance.
